Dear Reader,
Today, IFR just published the latest World Robotics report looking at the performance of the global robotics market in 2024. Global new installations trended sideways in 2024. Nevertheless, the 542 thousand units deployed mark the second highest installation count in history. Remarkably, the number installed in 2024 was more than double the number 10 years ago (221 thousand units).
Asia saw an increase of 5 % year-over-year and accounts for 74% of all installations worldwide. Europe declined by 8%, accounting for 16% of the global market, while the Americas faced a decline of even -10%, reducing its market share from 11% in 2023 to 9% in 2024. From the top five markets, China was the only country recording growth in installations, 295 thousand robots mark a +7% increase. Remarkably, India moved up to rank 6 with 9 thousand new units (+7%).
The electrical/electronics industry regained its leading position with a growth of +2%, while the demand of the automotive industry was down 7%. General industries grew by 3%, driven by good growth rates in metal/machinery, plastics and chemical products as well as food and beverages.
More details can be found in our press release as well as in the full report. If you are interested in the recording of the press conference, please reach out to the IFR secretariat.
We will shed further light on the global robotics market dynamics and the trends during the iREX fair in Tokyo beginning of December, both in our Robot Suppliers' Committee meeting (Dec. 2) and at the IFR-iREX Forum (Dec. 4).
Before that, on November 5 and 6, the ISR - the International Symposium on Robotics - will take place in Seoul, Korea, co-located with the Robot World 2025, kindly hosted by KAR. On Nov. 5, the IERA Award winners will be selected from the four finalists from Aldakin, Youibot Robotics, Rockwell Automation and Fourier Rehab and I will have the pleasure of handing over the prize to the winner during the networking dinner. IFR will also hold its Service Robot Committee meeting on Nov 4 - hope to see you there.
I am looking forward to meeting many of you in person at one of our upcoming events, enjoying the networking opportunities and discovering the latest trends at the fairground.
