I am passionate about robotics because I truly believe that the combination of Robotics with Artificial Intelligence (both with Computer Vision and Natural Language Processing) is defining exciting new opportunities that can improve our lives at work and as a society. Robotics has already contributed to long term efficiency of the most industrialized nations. Now companies like BitMetrics and colleagues in the academic fields are working to enhance robots with perception, with the ability to identify, predict and act in order to support human workers in a specific task. We are giving non-experts in robotics the possibility to give and modify instructions for them without writing a single line of code… This allows a giant leap for robotics in almost any industry, making it a game changer when it comes to quality of life at work and potential for creativity and prosperity.
And yet, there are still many challenges to solve: simple tasks for humans are not that simple for robots… Is it the gripper? Is it the robot? Is it the vision system? So, I constantly end up asking myself a simple question: on which side of technology do I want to be? The answer being always the same. I want to be part of the solution, of course! I really enjoy working with my team in challenging what can or cannot be achieved with current state-of-the-art approaches so that other people (experts in other fields) can benefit from the use of our technology, exploring new applications that improve -on the short sight- processes, but understanding that small steps, altogether, end up improving their (our) lives.
I am also very conscious about the fact that other countries have a longer history of contributions in the robotics field, and as an entrepreneur in Barcelona -even in Spain-, we are sowing the seeds for new companies to emerge and generate a strong and successful robotics and perception ecosystem that delivers global and strong technology based on top notch R&D contributions.
Mar is the CEO and co-founder of BitMetrics and Board Member of the Spanish Robotics Association (AER Automation). In 2023 she was selected as one of the Top 10 Women Entrepreneurs in Catalonia. Her company BitMetrics has been recognized as one of the most disruptive Catalan companies and holds several recognitions and awards.
Mar formerly worked for renowned corporations like IBM, British Telecom and EY. On the academic side, she is licensed in Business Administration, holds an Executive MBA from ESADE Business School and a Master’s degree in Data Analysis from Universitat Oberta de Catalunya.
